From Old Brooklyn to San Pedro..a new generation begins. It all started, shall we say, at 251 5th Avenue, in the Italian area of Old Brooklyn called Park Slope. Joe Bush, as he was known, opened a neighborhood candy store (luncheonette). The year was 1953 and the name was Joe Buscemi and Sons! It became the neighborhood hang-out serving the best sandwiches in town. From sausage and meatball, to their famous eggplant sandwiches.. As time passed, the neighborhood changed and the Buscemi's moved to San Pedro, California. Jump ahead to 1986...Santo (Philie's pop) and brother Fred decided to open a pizzeria. They opened the original “Buscemi's Pizza” offering the great sandwiches once served at Joe Buscemi and sons on 5th Avenue but now added a taste of the great New York Pizza! The family worked the pizzeria, making it their life and keeping Joe Bush's dream alive but the time came when they had to let it go.
As a teenager, Philie always kept his eyes and hands in the kitchen, working for different restaurants and meat shops around town, while trying to create a future for himself. He tried various professions but always came back to the kitchen (mainly his mother's kitchen). Working along side her learning all the old Italian recipes passed down from generation to generation.. Now, it's Philie's time to shine! He is proud to present “Philie B's” Pizza*Subs*Salads located on 6th Street in Old San Pedro. Phil takes the freshest ingredients to fill his kitchen. Making his mom's homemade pizza sauce along with his grandma Angie's meatballs and eggplant Parmesan. Phil has created his famous Philie Roll that will keep you coming back for more. He also offers specialty pizzas, calzones, hot and cold sandwiches, delicious salads, desserts and catering for your special occasions. “Philie B's” delivers to work or home, and is opened late to feed those on the night side of life.

Phil's Great Grandfathers and Grandfather worked Todd Shipyard, Union Oil, the docks and local construction from 1915 to 1980. Phil's Grandfather, Joe Bush, came to America from Sicily in 1918 first to Boston then settling in the Italian section of Brooklyn, New York.
