From Old Brooklyn
To San Pedro...

A New Generation Begins

It all started in the Italian section of Old Brooklyn called Park Slope. A young man from Sicily by the name of Guiseppe Buscemi (Joe Bush) opened a neighborhood candy store (luncheonette). It was 1953 and after working the docks of New York, it was time to fulfill his dream. He named it “Joe Buscemi and Sons”. This luncheonette soon became a neighborhood hang-out, serving the best homemade sandwiches in town. When Joe died in 1968, the heart of his luncheonette died. His son, Santo, moved to California to start a new life, settling in San Pedro where his wife Kathy and family were from. They opened a family pizzeria hoping to keep Joe Bush's dream alive, but with the demands of a growing family and long hard hours, they had to let go of that dream. This dream never died though, it lived on in the heart of one of their sons, Philie. He had always kept his eyes and hands working for different restaurants and meat shops around town, along with helping his mom in the kitchen learning the old family recipes. In 2013, it was time for Philie to start living his own dream. The family recipes that had been passed down from generation to generation would come to life at “Philie B's on 6th” in Old San Pedro.

It all starts with the sauce. We use only the best ingredients. The freshest tomatoes, onions, garlic, parsley and oregano top the homemade dough made fresh daily. Serving them sizzling hot straight from the ovens, either by the slice or whole pies! You must try the “White Pizza”, a true favorite by all!

Did you say “Philie Cheese Steak”? Seems like that is on top of the list, along side his fresh daily homemade Meatball Sandwich, piled high and topped with melted mozzarella cheese. Perhaps you are feeling like an old fashioned fresh Sausage n Pepper Sandwich, or a Godfather special? Whatever your choice is, the meats and cheeses are the finest Boars Head Meats have to offer, along with the freshest of produce.

Philie B's fresh produce, delivered daily, could have come direct from the farm. He serves select chicken, cheeses, meats and greens, making his variety in salads a meal in themselves or a great starter for a special pizza dinner. Whether you're watching your waist line or just plain hungry, you can't go wrong with a Philie B's delectable salad.

Let's get the juices flowing by wetting your palette with one of Philie B's fabulous appetizers. Are you in the mood for his lip smacking “Wings” smothered in buffalo or sweet chili sauce, or perhaps his hot melted mozzarella sticks. If you really want to start it off in a big way, try his homemade Arancini (rice ball) surrounded by homemade marinara sauce and, of course, a scoop of delicious riccota cheese. Now that's Italian!
